Hi I'm going to the far east is it worth buying my electronics from japan?

I want a camcorder and a small laptop. Something I can't get in England and more advanced special features. Price expecting??

prices should be much less in Japan, especially when compared with England.

id say your expecting at the very least 25% off compared to the uk but before you buy be sure to check they both work with the uk networks or genrally in the uk and if it has a garentee then find out the address to ship it to if needed hope i helped :)

If it has a cord, make sure you either invest in a European/British power cord, or a Universal Travel Adaptor. The camera would probably be worth it (just remember to claim it with Customs & Excise on the return trip! The laptop may not necessarily be worth the additional expense...unless you speak/read Japanese, since the unit will likely not be using an English version of the OS. While you can reformat, you may have service issues. Besides, for laptops, the "newest of the new" are actually in Hong Kong. :D Good Luck!

If you want cheap electronics then you out to go to Hong Kong or China, for cheap. If you want something thats interesting or latest models, though not as cheap, then Japan has the stuff. But as someone already mentioned, you need to make sure the voltage is correct since Japan uses different voltage then UK (Japan uses 100V and different plugs) , also Japanese OS will be loaded, and the Japanese keyboard is laid out slightly different then your standard English OS (various keys are in different locations, and the space bar is much shorter). So while yes you *might save some money, you end up losing money on buying a voltage converter (if needed), a New English operating system, and any Customs fees you might have to pay bringing it back home.

Prices are NOT cheaper in Japan ! Most electronics are no longer made in Japan. They're made in China, Taiwan, ect. Japanese software is different than the UK. So are the power requirements. You're better off buying in the UK.

Prices in Japan are not much different. You will find you are not saving a ton of money plus you will have difficulty returning it if something goes wrong obviously. Another thing you should be careful with some things like DVD Players, Game Systems etc are region coded so you won't be able to play local things on them once you are home without paying more to modify it. Voltage may also be an issue for you as well. Yodobashi is a wonderful place to shop for electronics it is like 6 stories of toys to me but don't expect to see so much different stuff as you do in your home town or ridulous cheap prices just expect to see a lot I mean a lot of stuff.
