I am thinking of going to Tokyo for maybe a week with a friend. How much should I expect to spend? I would like to stay at a nice hotel, how much would a suite cost per night? Or would I really have to stay in those tiny beds I see on tv? Much much should I expect to spend on food, tourint etc? Thanks! Exchange rate? I'll be buying yen from Canadian dollars if that's what you mean. The CDN dollar is almost on par with the U.S. dollar right now.
first you need to have some idea as to the rate of exchange. what is your money worth in Japan? Maybe your friend knows.
I'd recommend something like 80,000 Yen... I was there with 40,000 and went through that in 3 days. Don't forget that Japan and especially Tokyo is one of the most expensive places in the world. My God!!! a suite? Most of the hotel rooms there are tiny, with a tiny window, and tinier bathroom... oh and bring a towel. With a suite you'll probably need over 150K for the week.
The exchange rate is OK right now...I think its about 114 yen for every $1 US dollar. Tokyo can be reasonably priced if you would like it to be. The plane tickets easily cost $1000 or more. If you want to stay at a nice hotel I would plan on spending at least $150-200 a night. There are some cheaper accomodations. There are also traditional Japanese Inns called Ryokans. They are usually very nice and will add a lot to your trip. I suggest staying in one of these. You can check out accomodations at for cheap and expensive places. It also gives you a breakdown of what is around the area. This can be very helpful if you plan on staying out late and taking a cab home. Food depends on what you would like. There are great cheaper places and overpriced OK places (like any country). I would plan to spend about $60 on food if you want to stay moderately priced. The shopping and night life are amazing so I would definately bring extra money for this - at least $400-$500. Places to stay in Tokyo: 1. Asakusa - a nice area with a beautiful temple (its also close to a nice park called Ueno park). If you would like a more mellow area to stay I suggest here. There are plenty of hotels here. 2. Nightlife is centered around Shibuya and Roppongi. If you like to party I suggest staying closer to these areas so the cab fair isn't crippling. Its also great for walking around in the day time. 3. There is also Shinjuku. This is a very busy place with decent accomodations. Great for early morning (Harujuku) to people watch. Therefore I would take at least $2400 for everything. This is a high estimate too. You can definately do Tokyo for cheaper! Have fun!
First of all, you don't seem to be too orginized with this trip to Japan!! If you have to ask how much is too much to take, then you are more or less out of your league. The foods are great and $$$$$ SPENDY!!!!!! Parts of the city are riddled with high crime rates. People are VERY,VERY RUDE to you until you show them the wads of money that you are willing to pass out to the locals because once they see the $20..$50..and $100 Dollar bits, you will be swamped by large gangs wanting this money besaue they assume you pulled it out to share with them....the local poor!! The sights are beautiful but please don't wander too far from your 1-2 room "ROOM"!!!/ But Hey......Enjoy Your Trip This Time because you will more then likely chose to remember this trip this time when you are planning a trip somewhere else next year.
80,000 yen is about right anyways have fun in japan just remember bring a lot of money especially if you wanna stay in a suite you'll need about a few thousands just remember you're going to one of the most expensive places in the world but have fun..............
Nice hotel = .. Four Seasons? (a Canadian hotel operator) Suite is more expensive!!!! I guess it wouldn't be cheaper than 45,000+ yen (per night), you may check their website, then click Tokyo. Transportation from Narita Airport to Tokyo city centre - around 2500 yen by Limo or Narita Express, 20,000+ yen by taxi. I recommend you to buy the "Rail Pass" before you leave your country, they have 7 days, 14 days, 21 days, and within that period of time you can use the pass as many times as you want to take public transportation - operated by JR to move around Japan, it saves time and money. If you are not just going to Tokyo but also would go to Nikko, Hakone, Yokohama, you can take Shinkansen - bullet train by the railpass. (It takes only 5 minutes by Shinkansen from Tokyo to Yokohama, but 2 hours by normal speed train and Shinkansen costs a lot more expensive). Food can be cheap or expensive, I would say, depends on what you prefer, say from 800 - 2500 yen for lunch and 1200 - 6000 yen for dinner (excludes wine) per person. Anyway, bring as much as you can + credit cards!! Have fun.
At least 55000 yen for 8 days in Japan as there are so many things to buy there. A word of warning: the things there are not as cheap as you expect. The prices can be exorbitant.
You need lots of money to spend in Tokyo. A burger meal in Wendy's cost around 400 yen.
