My girlfriend who lives in Japan was recently denied an F-1 student visa to come to the U.S. to study for a semester, apparently due to the fact that I am her boyfriend and sponsor here. I'm guessing the consular officer may have felt that she was going to abandon her ties in Japan and try to live with me permanently. After looking at some websites (including U.S. government ones), I still have a few questions that relate to this denial of her visa application. Any help understanding this frustrating situation is greatly appreciated! How badly does this denial hurt her chances of future travel to the U.S. on any kind of visa? If she tries to travel here in the next few weeks, is this denial likely to prevent her from getting a tourist visa on arrival which she is normally eligible for since she is a Japanese citizen? She read on a Japanese website that it is possible to get effectively banned from the U.S. with even two visa denials on your record. She is very upset by this idea, but I don't think that happens. Can anyone confirm that? How long should she wait before reapplying for an F-1 or other visa? Should she try applying with a different sponsor? School starts in about 6 weeks, is it realistic to expect she could reapply and secure a visa in that time frame? Thanks! Regarding Uncle's answer it was because of the fact that I'm her boyfriend and sponsor. The consulate would not issue a student visa because of this relationship. She was denied under 214(b)
They would have told her why she was denied ... you need to find out this before you try anything else It may have been lack of home ties, financial..... anything ..... It does not affect future
