That depends how long you will going there... I'm going in April this year for 8 days for leisure. I can share with you my total costs. 1. Air tix - RM1.3k (promotion with MAS) 2. Rail pass - RM1.3k (Japan Rail Pass for 7 days) 3. Accommodation; homestay - 3,000 yen a night (about RM920 for 8 days) Total cost incurred: RM7k. But it's all backpacking and I'm estimating I'm gonna use 5,000 a day and there are other things inclusive as well like ryokan stays, tourist spots....it can be less than RM7k depending on how u wanna go around. Try tour packages because they do offer good rates...
